The 2008 LSAT Summer Intensive faculty includes some of the most experienced and top-rated LSAT instructors at Kaplan. In addition to scoring in the 95th percentile or higher on the LSAT, each has received the highest marks from our students for engaging, effective teaching. They'll be on call every day until 10pm to help students master the curriculum and reach their score goal.

Deborah Katz,
J.D./PhD, Program Director

Deborah returns to the Summer Intensive Program from Columbus, Ohio where she is a consultant for the American NewMedia Educational Foundation as well as Kaplan's head LSAT instructor and teacher trainer. Deborah holds both a J.D. and a PhD from The Ohio State University. A specialist in the law of amateur sports, she consults with the education and athletic communities to evaluate NCAA compliance and develop rules, educational programs, and materials. She also serves as an adjunct professor for the Law of Amateur Sports at Capital University Law School. Deborah has taught with Kaplan since 2002. In 2007, she was honored as the Columbus Teacher of the Year and selected to participate in the inaugural LSAT Summer Intensive Program. She brings to the program a wealth of legal, educational and test-related insight as well as a dedication to helping her students achieve the best possible score on the LSAT.

Jack Chase,
J.D., Academic Director |
Jack taught and tutored at the inaugural Kaplan LSAT Summer Intensive Program, and now lives and works in Boston as a full-time LSAT Master Teacher for Kaplan. A 2001 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School and a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association, Jack has held a dizzying variety of positions throughout his legal career, including working for prisoners in the Wisconsin prison system, an insurance company's corporate legal department, a sports agency, the Philadelphia 76ers, and consumer and creditor rights law firms. Jack has been teaching at Kaplan since 2002 in the Milwaukee and Boston areas. Make sure to ask Jack about his collection of college logo t-shirts.

John Fritschie, J.D. |
John has a B.S. in Environmental Science from Rutgers University and J.D. from George Washington University. He has taught LSAT preparation courses for nearly five years, while also practicing law (as a solo practitioner and for non-profit groups) for over a decade and for a few semesters teaching as an adjunct clinical law instructor. John was born in New Jersey and lived there until after graduating from college. He moved to Washington, D.C. for law school and, since then, has spent time in Arizona, Oregon, Texas, Hawaii, Alaska, Montana and Pennsylvania. He has argued in federal district court in Florida, Texas, Arizona, and Hawaii. John is very laid back and would prefer to be on a mountaintop in Montana watching the bears walk by, but is very competitive at pool, standardized tests, and on the rare occasions he gets to argue in court.

Deborah Osborn, J.D. |
Deborah Osborn comes to the Summer Intensive Program from South Florida, where she is a Master Teacher and Trainer for Kaplan. Deborah has taught for Kaplan since November 2000. She was selected as her center's Teacher of the Year in both 2005 and 2007 and Trainer of the Year in 2004 and 2006. Deborah received her J.D. from the West Virginia University College of Law and her Bachelor of Arts in French and Anthropology from Tufts University. She obtained her law license in Florida in 1996 and has practiced law in the areas of bankruptcy, condominium law, contracts, labor and employment, ADA disputes, and real estate.

Andrew Whang, J.D. |
Andrew joined Kaplan as an instructor in 1999, helping students prepare for various entrance exams, and became a teacher trainer in 2002. Andrew refers to test prep teaching as "a science, an art, and a passion." He earned his J.D. from King Hall at the University of California, Davis in 2005. During law school, Andrew spent a summer interning at the California Office of the State Public Defender, assisting in the preparation of a death penalty appeal. After graduating and passing the California Bar Exam in 2005, he joined the City Attorney's Office in Bakersfield (CA) in 2006, where he spent time in the prosecution and municipal units. In 2008, he left that position to become an attorney for the California Parole Advocacy Program, which represents parolees in the California prison system. Andrew grew up in Ohio and Southern California, and went to college at the University of California, Irvine, where he majored in Chemistry.
